Charlie founded C Maclean & Associates in the autumn of 2012, after more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry.
He began his career with S.G.Warburg, a major international investment bank (now UBS), back in Sept 1986, working for the newly created Futures and Options business, and over the next eight years held many front-office roles within the Futures business. By 1995 Charlie ran a principle arbitrage book on the floor of LIFFE, as well as running an eight-man sales team focused on broking and executing 10 year Bund Financial Futures.
In January 1997 Charlie was recruited by Barclays initially to work on the LIFFE floor as a futures broker. In 2001 Charlie was asked to lead the ecommerce sales function selling the electronic execution tool to institutional clients in Europe, Scandinavia and the Middle East, as well as marketing this functionality to hedge fund clients in the UK.
In 2002, he was asked to develop Barclays’ Prime Brokerage business with Hedge Fund relationships he had created during his ecommerce experience.
From 2003 to 2008 Charlie ran the Fixed Income Prime Brokerage sales and client service business at Barclays. Starting as a very small unit within the Prime Brokerage business, this soon developed into the leading Fixed Income offering in Europe. This experience brought Charlie a deep and broad connectivity to the European-based Macro and Fixed Income (across Rates and Credit) Hedge Fund universe.
In 2009 he was asked to move to Singapore to create and run the Prime Service Origination team across Asia. This was a new role created by the Lehman bankruptcy as Barclays developed its global ambitions for the Prime business. With an original mandate to build a first class origination (sales) team across Asia Pac, he was responsible for hiring a team of 14 over the first 12 months or so. As this team developed, the mandate was to focus on key Hedge Fund and institutional clients, and build a top-tier Prime Finance business within the region. The team was created with a blend of local and international expertise.
Charlie was a Managing Director within the Prime Services business and sat on the management team globally as well as the Asian ExCo for Prime.
Charlie was also a board member of the British Chamber of Commerce.
